Catboxes

The classic dots-and-boxes game, with a minesweeper twist.

Support

How do I play?

Take turns tapping the lines between dots. When you complete the fourth side of a box, you capture it and earn another turn. The player with the most points at the end wins.

What is Cat Scratch mode?

Hidden hazards and treats lurk beneath the grid. As you claim lines, clue numbers reveal how many surprises surround each box. Treats give bonus points. Hazards vary โ€” some cost you points, some take the box back, and some just cost you your extra turn.

Can I play against the computer?

Yes. When setting up a new game, set any opponent to Easy, Medium, or Hard.

How many players can play?

Two to four, in any mix of human and computer players โ€” one human against three opponents, or four humans passing the device around.

Can I resume a game later?

Yes. Your game saves automatically. Tap Resume Game on the home screen to pick up where you left off.

How do I change the appearance?

Settings, from the home screen. Light, dark, or match your system.

Does it work offline?

Entirely. No internet connection required.

What does it collect?

Anonymous usage analytics only โ€” no names, emails, or advertising identifiers. See Privacy below.

Translations

Catboxes is available in ten languages. The translations are AI-generated, which means some of them are probably a little off.

If something reads oddly in your language, I would genuinely like to know. A single sentence pointing at the awkward bit is enormously helpful.

Privacy

Effective 12 June 2026. Catboxes is free and provided as is.

What is collected

Anonymous usage analytics: screen views, game configuration (board size, player count, opponent settings, Cat Scratch settings), game outcomes (duration, moves, hazards triggered, treats collected), basic device information (model, OS version, app version), and locale region such as "US" or "GB".

What is not collected

No names, email addresses, account information, or advertising identifiers. Nothing that could identify you personally. Analytics are not linked to your identity and are not used to track you across other apps or websites. There are no ads and no advertising SDKs.

Analytics are aggregated by a third-party service (Tinybird). No personal information is included in those requests.

Stored on your device

Game preferences such as player names and board size are stored locally using standard system storage. This never leaves your device.
